Mediation is a voluntary, confidential, and informal process where a third-party, neutral facilitator, known as a mediator, helps disputing parties communicate, negotiate and attempt settlement via a mutually acceptable agreement. The mediator helps the parties by facilitating dialogue, encouraging the parties to explore interests, concerns, and creative options for resolution. Mediation is often used as an alternative to litigation since it can be faster, less expensive, and less adversarial.
